Linda's Ohio Star

Some of my clients find a style of quilting that speaks to them and they may not make other styles of quilts. Linda definitely does NOT fit that profile. I never know what she is going to bring to me. Her style and her fabrics are extremely varied. For example, this is the very traditional quilt she brought me recently. And just a couple months ago I finished this wild funky log cabin for her! Two ends of the spectrum, eh? You've got to love a piecer who is in touch with so many categories of quilting! Linda brought me this quilt top along with the photo of it from a magazine dated from the early 1990's. The quilting in the magazine was all hand quilting designs so it wasn't going to translate for machine quilting. Instead, I chose to treat her quilt very traditionally and she was thrilled when she picked it up.

I put a repeated wave in the sashings and I made a custom design for each of the Ohio Star blocks. I really wanted the quilting in the blocks to be traditional yet doable for a continuous quilting technique.
I've named the design "Columbus Ohio Star".

This is the first time I done a custom block design like this. It was fun and a great learning experience. Here's the block design:

The overall effect is sophisticated and timeless. Linda told me her family would surely be fighting over this one when she is gone! :)
