A while ago I got a visit from the thread fairy and in the box was an awesome variegated hot orange and red Lava thread by Superior Threads. It was LOVE at first sight but once I got it, I wondered what quilt I'd be able to use it on because it could easily overpower a quilt if not used correctly.

Well, Fay came through! Take a look at this great Kaffe Fassett beauty made up of some really great, wild fabrics. She asked me to do custom quilting on this top and it was fun coming up with some contemporary designs to use on such a contemporary quilt. I broke out that hot orange/ hot red thread and did a funky border with a complementary design in the cornerstones.

What I really like is how the tree trunks turned out. I put bark on the tree in that variegated thread along with cross hatching in the trees. I filled in around the trees with a meander and interconnected curves in the sashings.

Fay works at one of my local quilt shop gems and she taught me how to use my new Viking Diamond embroidery machine. I just need to lock her in one of my closets so I can prop her up in my sewing room when I decide to embroider something! :)
