Did you catch our October 2020 Quilted Joy Clubhouse online meeting? This month we looked at how to quilt 5 fun feather plumes. If you missed the livestream it’s available to watch (or re-watch!) whenever you’d like. Find it on the Quilted Joy Youtube channel or on the Quilted Joy Clubhouse page on our website!

Our main program for this month’s meeting was about how to quilt 5 fun feather plumes. Watch the video below to see these fun and funky feathers and so much more!

How to Quilt 5 Fun Feather Plumes

Not every quilting feather needs to be a traditional Amish style feather. So for this month's Quilted Joy Clubhouse meeting, I wanted to look at how to quilt 5 fun feather plumes that are a little funky and modern. The five feathers I demonstrated for you were:

  1. Curled Feathers
  2. Fern Frond Feathers
  3. Alternating Curl and Fern Frond Feathers
  4. Curled Feathers with a Cat Claw
  5. Curled Feathers with a Kick Out

Part of what I love about these 5 fun feather plumes, is how forgiving they can be! Traditional feathers have a lot of symmetry, and if you're off a little bit, it can be super noticeable. These feathers don't have any symmetry! If you're not super precise, your feathers still look great! If you're looking for more feather plume inspiration, I highly recommend The Fast and the Fancy by Bethanne Nemesh. Bethanne's designs will really challenge the way you look at feathers!

Give these 5 fun feather plumes a try! Start by doodling on paper first until you get used to the path, then take the designs to your machine. Share a picture of your doodles and quilting over in the Quilted Joy Clubhouse and let me know which feather plume was your favorite!

Roger's Quilting Studio with a View

For our Looky Loo Studio Tour we visited Quilted Joy Clubhouse member Roger Garneau of Heartfelt Quilts. What stands out the most to me about Roger's space is how nicely organized his longarm studio is! He has several great pegboards to display his quilting and embroidery threads. I thought his spice rack prewound bobbin storage solution was brilliant too! And his fabrics are very nicely wrapped around acid-free comic boards in cabinets from IKEA. More than anything, I'm jealous of his beautiful water view! Is there any better incentive to go quilting than a great view? Thank you Roger for sharing your beautiful space with us! If you'd like to see more of Roger's work, you can find him on Facebook as Heartfelt Quilts.

Angela’s Favorite Things – The Spooky Spools Collections

We’re getting excited for Halloween this month! And with that we’ve created a fun new thread collection called Spooky Spools!

Aren’t these thread colors just perfect for Halloween? We have a Glide Spooky Spools bundle and a Premo-Soft Spooky Spools bundle and they’re both available in king cones and mini cones. The orange, purple, or green threads would be especially fun on a kiddo’s Halloween quilt, wouldn’t they? As a fun added bonus, the Glide Super White thread will even glow under a blacklight!

How Would You Quilt It? Tina’s Starry Leaves Quilt

Isn’t Tina’s quilt just gorgeous? I love the speckled ombre fabrics and it reminded me for beautiful fall leaves.

Tina's Starry Leaves Quilt

When I first started my quilting designs, I came up with a few different options that included straight lines, diamond shapes, big curls, and feathers. I decided on big, beautiful feathers that fill the diamond shapes, using the gold sashing as the spine for the feathers. This is such a fun quilt, and I can’t wait to see how Tina chooses to quilt it!

Show and Tell

I love to wrap up the QJ Clubhouse meetings with a little show and tell. There are so many talented quilters in the Quilted Joy Clubhouse on Facebook and they share lots of amazing quilts. It’s fun to put a spotlight on their hard work!

The Quilted Joy Clubhouse live meetings occur on the first Wednesday of each month at 1pm Eastern. Our next Clubhouse meeting will be November 4, 2020 at 1pm Eastern/Noon Central and we’ll be talking about how to quilt feathers on the outside of a feathered wreath. If you’d like to watch live, you can find us on Facebook in the Quilted Joy Clubhouse or subscribe to the Quilted Joy Youtube channel to be notified about our videos. Don’t worry if you can’t join us live. The video will remain available on both Facebook and Youtube afterwards so you can watch whenever you want!

Hope to “see” you at the next live meeting!
