Sarah's Purple and Silver Quilt
This is Sarah's Purple and Silver Quilt. We love it when Sarah comes in to drop off a quilt. They are always the most amazing pieces. With intricate and complicated piecing, all expertly stitched by hand, and in beautiful colors, Sarah never ceases to amaze. She made this quilt as a wedding gift for her brother and future sister-in-law. I am sure that this will make quite an impression at the wedding because her beautiful quilts usually do.
Hand piecing in Purple and Silver
Looking at this quilt can be intimidating. There is so much going on because of the excellent placement of the colors. The fun stars in the middle with the smaller triangular spots makes me think of snowflakes. The silvers and purples definitely add to that, cool and icy.
The blocks that make up this quilt are a little harder to see because of how she has expertly placed her fabric choices. This is a tumbling block quilt, where the diamond shapes that make the block are pieced with different fabrics. She then added two side borders for extra width from the same wide back fabric as the backing.
Pinched Square Spiral
I quilted this top with an edge to edge design called Pinched Square Spiral. This is a favorite pattern for many because it adds great texture to a quilt without a lot of additional design. It looks exactly as it sounds; a squared off spiral that is pinched and pulled at the axis to give the would be straight lines a gentle curve. It looks great with all the straight lines.
The backing fabric is also from us and was an excellent match to her purple quilt. Go With the Flow comes in a couple of great colors, but Natural was the best color this time. It is just barely off white.
Quilts are great gifts for weddings. The gift is the time and effort that is put in every stitch. Sarah spent days worth of hours meticulously planning and stitching every piece. Each stitch would have brought thoughts of why and for whom it was for. A quilt represents how often that person was on her mind. Is there a sweeter expression of sisterly love? That is definitely what Sarah's purple and silver quilt is saying to me. Blankets warm the body, but a quilt can warm the soul.
