Here are the highlights from this month’s meeting!

For our main program I wanted to talk about quilting in tiny spaces like sashing and small borders. You might be tempted to leave that space unquilted, after all it's just a 1" wide space. But if you look at your batting instructions, it probably recommends quilting every 4"-8" to keep the batting consistent as the quilt ages and you wash it. That 1" sashing space can easily be 40" long, if not longer. You'll probably want to fill in that sashing space with a little bit of quilting somewhere. In the meeting I shared some of my favorite quilting designs for filling those tiny spaces. If you want more ideas for quilting in small spaces, check out this Pinterest board where I've collected a few of my favorite ideas.

Heather Dedo from Custom Quilting by Heather Dedo was gracious enough to share her quilting space with us! I love that the first thing you see when you walk through her front door is a longarm machine. And as we talked about, it's so nice to feel like you're still in the mix of things with your family. Thanks for sharing Heather!

I always feel a little like Oprah during the My Favorite Things portion of the meeting. I showed off a few brand new wide back fabrics, two of which literally walked in the door an hour before recording! First up was the super cute Cat Happy 108" quilt back from Windham Fabrics. We originally had this in stock back in April, but after posting a picture on Facebook it sold out in just a couple of days. So we ordered two more bolts and it finally arrived!

I also showed off two new dotted wide back fabrics from FreeSpirit Fabrics. Dots 108" - Violet and Dots 108" - Indigo were just released a few weeks ago. I already love them because I love dotted prints. But I didn't expect how nice they'd feel! They have a great weight and are super soft. These will be amazing on the back of a quilt!

For the How Should I Quilt This portion of the meeting, I showed off my ideas for how to quilt Barbara's gorgeous quilt. I don't know what the pattern is, but Barbara said it was a mystery quilt she did years ago, with the biggest mystery being how to quilt it! Her quilt was beautiful and I can't wait to see how she decides to quilt it.

We always wrap up the Clubhouse meetings with a little show and tell. All month members of the Quilted Joy Clubhouse on Facebook have been showing off their recent finishes. Now we get to "ooh" and "ahh" over them and tell them how awesome they are!

The Quilted Joy Clubhouse Live Meetings occur on the first Wednesday of every month at 1pm Eastern. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday July 3. During July's meeting I’ll be talking about stops and starts. If you’d like to watch live, you can find us on Facebook in the Quilted Joy Clubhouse or subscribe to the Quilted Joy Youtube channel to be notified about our videos. Don’t worry if you can’t join us live. The videos will remain available on both Facebook and Youtube afterwards so you can watch them whenever you want!

Hope to “see” you at the next live meeting!
