I’m back in the studio after a nice and relaxing Thanksgiving break. Did everyone else have a wonderful holiday weekend? I’m not big on Black Friday shopping, but I am starting to think about my holiday giving. If you’re needing a little inspiration for gifts, take a look at some of the quilts my renters made for others. Brenda's Nancy Drew quilt for her son-in-law's nieces. If you were a Nancy Drew fan growing up, you’ll love the quilt Brenda was working on. She made this diamond dash quilt using Nancy Drew fabrics! There were so many cute prints like magnifying glasses, bookshelves, and more. Brenda said she made this quilt for her son-in-law’s nieces, and it’s going to be a surprise to everyone. Growing up, Brenda would receive surprise packages from her mother’s friend with little gifts and letters. She decided she wants to continue that tradition by sending surprise gifts to these lucky girls. It’s such a thoughtful gift that’s guaranteed to make those girls smile! For the quilting, Brenda used the drop spiral design board to add a fun quilting design with lots of movement. I think it fits the Nancy Drew theme well too, some of those clues sent her spiraling all over the place! Erin's XOXO Charity quilt with a free hand orange peel design Every time Erin comes in she has such eye catching quilts. The creativity she brings to Quilted Joy is remarkable. She is totally inspirational! It’s a nice plus that she’s fun to work with and have around the studio! Erin prefers to free motion quilt over using a pantograph or design board. For this particular quilt she free handed an orange peel design. The orange peel suits this quilt perfectly and because she free handed it she could enlarge the design to best fit each square. You can see the final product after it was bound and washed at Erin’s blog, House on Hill Road. Erin said she donated this quilt to her church. Someone VERY lucky took home this lovely quilt! Those kiddos are being spoiled with quilts! And what kid doesn’t love Mickey and Minnie Mouse? Colleen made this quilt for her grandkids to love and use a lot! She used a simple strip piecing design and chose the Star Dance pantograph to quilt it. This is such a fun quilt and I’m sure her grandkids love to snuggle under it when they come to visit! Her sister-in-law lives in Arizona and has always dreamed of going to Paris. That dream finally came true for her earlier this year. Kim is commemorating the trip with a Paris quilt. What makes you think of Paris more than the Eiffel tower? How about the fleur-de-lis? Kim brought her own pattern with a double fleur-de-lis design - we have our own Funky Fleur-de-lis panto in the online store too. She quickly quilted the stylized lily or lotus flower all over the quilt. I know that the quilt is going to mean so much to her sister-in-law especially after the trip of a lifetime.
