More Beauties From The KY State Fair!
My local quilting guild is the Louisville Nimble Thimbles. I am so blessed to have such a talented group of women in my area. When I first started quilting, I began attending meetings to try to glean as many tips and tricks as possible!
Now I am lucky enough that some of those friends are now clients too! I just love going to the Fair and seeing all the talented women's works of art hanging to enjoy. Here are just some of the beauties entered in the fair this year by these talented ladies.
I've also been able to meet so many other local quilters through retreats, classes, shops and even the internet! I'm quite sure I overlooked quilts by some of my friends and I'm looking forward to going to the fair again and taking more time to stroll through the quilt aisles.
These first two quilts were made by Barb, my guild's president. She has recently branched out into art quilts and from the looks of that shiny blue ribbon on her landscape, I'd say she's found her niche!
This is Dee Dee's cherry quilt. She works at Among Friends Quilt Shop and has a great eye for color. I know many people who seek her out when they are pulling bolts for their next project. Take a look at all of those cherries- they are covered buttons!
Karen did such a wonderful job with this quilt. See each of those stars in the center of the log cabin blocks? She fussy cut every one of those little buggers! Karen is one of those quilters who just light a room up with their contagious friendliness. I've been on retreat with her and had a ball!
Sarah Jane made these next quilts she is a woman of many talents and enters a ton of stuff in gobs of categories at the fair each year. I have no doubt that I missed some of her entries. She does some really beautiful rug hooking too. I really love the way she made the black blocks break through to the outside border on her quilt.
Barbara is a prolific quilter who just might need an extension built onto her house to house all the ribbons she's won over the years. She is the president of another local guild I frequent from time to time. If I'm not mistaken, Barbara was piecing these blocks at the joint retreat our two guilds went to in February. I can't imagine what her stash looks like but I'd sure like to wander through it!
Finally, I wanted you to see Anita's Best of Show quilt. I should have taken some close up shots of the quilting on the face of this little girl and the body of the dog. Her quilting brings them to life. The stitching lines give the little girl definition and structure to her face. Even the eyes are perfect. Plus, take a look at how well she used that print in the outside border. WOW!
After enjoying the quilts, we went over to see the little chicks hatching from their shells. We stayed for a long time because there were so many poking their heads out for the very first time. I kept thinking of Judy while I watched them! They were so precious!
