Now don’t get me wrong, I’ll be the first person to say we should not rush the seasons and I don’t believe that it is appropriate to put up Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving. Christmas is a beautiful and wonderful time of year, but that doesn’t mean I want four plus months of it. But those of us who are in a crafting lifestyle know that the season does need to start a little earlier in our sewing rooms if we want to be done in time to enjoy our creations during the season. So in honor of that, I present to you some ideas for Christmas quilts that we saw last year from our longarm machine renters, in time for you to be able to use them as inspiration for this year.
Got a Cute Christmas Panel?
This is ultra simple but still very sweet. Cathy quilted a Christmas panel to make a cute wall hanging or lap quilt. There are some seriously cute panels out there, and what a great way to practice your long arm quilting and have some fun without all the time and effort in creating your top.
Cathy quilted this with our snowflakes design board. The perfect design for a snowy scene! She used a white Premo-Soft thread so the quilting blends nicely into the top without distracting from the panel. She even added her quilted signature at the bottom!
Modern Christmas Tree Quilt
I thought this one was definitely a quilt I’m going to tackle some day. It is “The Modern Christmas Tree Quilt” by Amy Smart. The concept is super simple and easy to do. There are instructions, but no pattern. You simply sew fabric together and the tree’s angles come out the way they come out. Each is unique.
This would make a great fall quilt or cabin quilt depending on the fabric you choose to use with it. With Christmas fabric, it definitely fits in the season. Colleen used Bolero, a loopy meander design that works great with it.
Fun with Applique
And finally this quilt from Carol. I believe the Christmas gift boxes are pieced into the white background and the words are all appliqued. There are also a couple of sawtooth stars in there. What a great quilt to have over the couch during the holidays!
I love how the border frames it all together. Carol quilted this with an orange peel design board. It’s a great traditional design that adds a lot of lovely texture without adding a distraction to the top. Such a sweet quilt!
I hope these quilts inspired you for the coming Christmas season. There are so many great tops and designs out there that can really bring the Holiday spirit into your home this season. I know it’s a little early, but there is much to do if you want to have one of these for your home. Good luck! When you’re done, send us a photo. We’d love to see what you came up with.
