It is officially summer, and that means the 2017 Row by Row Experience is kicking off! I had so much fun meeting and introducing our little shop to lots of quilters from around the world, and even from my own backyard. With all the fun we had last year, there was no doubt Quilted Joy would be participating in Row by Row again this year! This year’s theme is “On the Go!” and I’m so excited to share our row with you!
It’s always my goal to design a row with a local feel. There’s nothing more Louisville, KY than the Kentucky Derby Festival and all of it’s fun and unique events. The Great Balloon Race is one of the festival’s most beloved annual traditions. Watching a group of beautifully colored balloons float over the countryside is magical. We can’t think of a better way to be “on the go”!
This pattern features one of our fabric license plates in the largest balloon but you can substitute any fabric of your choice if you prefer.
The row was once again designed by the uber talented Liz Kodner, you can see more of her work at MaplehurstQuiltCo.com
In case you haven’t heard of Row by Row before, participating quilt shops design unique 9″ by 36″ rows based on a theme. Approximately 3,000 shops are participating, representing all 50 states, all of the Canadian provinces, and several European countries. From June 21 – September 5 you get to hop from shop to shop, picking up a free pattern or purchasing a fabric kit for each shop’s row.
After collecting your patterns, you can assemble them into a quilt to serve as a memoir of your travels or potentially to win prizes. Our winner last year was Karen, and she brought her quilt in during the last week of Row by Row to win some excellent prizes! You can see her quilt here.
If you’re planning any road trips this summer, you’ll want to see if there are any Row by Row participating shops along your route. And if you’ll be in Kentucky, I hope you’ll stop by Quilted Joy to pick up our row! If you can’t make it to Louisville, you can also pre-order the pattern and fabric kit for our row here. I also still have a few color paper patterns available from last year’s row by row. I hope I’ll see you soon!
