Amy Batik quilt

Amy is a relatively new quilter who made this massive scrappy batik quilt. I think it measured 115 x 120 or so. It was a very, very big quilt. But isn't it lovely? I think the thing that pulls it all together is the black and white striped inner border. I love how bold it is and I think it is a perfect choice for the top. I didn't get a shot of the back of her quilt but it was also all batik! I can't imagine what her scrap bin looks like but I think I'd like to take it home. Amy chose Oodles of Doodles pantograph for her quilt and it looked wonderful on her top.

I get questions all the time from people who are thinking of buying a quilting machine but they don't know what size table they should purchase. I own a 12 foot table and I always say that I've never met a quilt yet I can't get on my frame. This is a good example. No doubt, this quilt top is massive but I had no problems loading on my 12 foot frame. Personally, I don't see many people who truly need the 14 foot table unless you are doing a lot of work for interior decorators who want huge drops on their King spreads. I know some people like the 14 foot tables because they get a little work room on the sides of the quilting space when they have a big quilt on the frame. For me, though, a twelve foot is perfect.

I had to include a shot of my two boys working with me down in the studio. They are trying to finish piecing their tops they'll quilt and enter in the MQS show in Kansas. The deadline is March 15 so they need to really FOCUS! Last year BirdMan won third place in that show and $100. It isn't mandatory that the kiddos piece the tops in the junior category for that show but the boys also want to enter the Ky State Fair and in that show they must have pieced the top so we are trying to make a top that will go in all the shows.

I love my new studio in the new house. There is room for the whole family to work together!
