Master the Flying Geese Block!
Once you've caught the quilting bug, there are certain blocks and shapes you'll start to see over and over again. Some of those blocks will be super simple to piece, others will make your brain work a little harder! The Flying Geese block is one you'll see all the time. It pops up in sampler quilts (like the image above), in borders and sashing spaces, and it'll even be hidden within blocks (like the chevrons in the balloon pictured below). But this block is one of the blocks that can be a little challenging. If you do a quick Google search for how to piece flying geese you'll find tons of tutorials using a variety of techniques. I'm going to clear the confusion and help you master the Flying Geese block with my class, Learn Patchwork: Flying Geese. This fun class is perfect for the beginner or those who just want to brush up on their skills! I'll teach multiple ways to make a flying geese block along with helpful shortcuts. My goal is for you to find the piecing method that makes the most sense to you. As we put our blocks together we'll next look at the surprising ways to combine them. As you're noticing from some of these pictures, there are a variety of layouts that will make beautiful quilts! We'll also examine a few ways to quilt them for both sit down and stand up quilters. I'll be teaching Learn Patchwork: Flying Geese on Saturday April 28, 10:30am-3:00pm here at Quilted Joy Studios in Louisville, KY. We've already had folks sign up and there are still a few spots left. I'd love for you to join me for this fun and relaxing afternoon of quiltmaking!
