American Sewing Guild Came to Visit
Recently the local chapter of the American Sewing Guild came to visit. This guild is interesting because it is a wide mix of sewing enthusiasts who like all kinds of sewing, and many aren't quilters. The presentation I gave was all about longarm quilting. We talked about the machines and the types of longarm quilting. I wanted them to understand the difference between edge-to-edge, custom, and heirloom quilting. I had a variety of examples and a photo presentation as well.
I also spent some time talking about how to select a quilter for hire and what sorts of things to be aware of when hiring someone to work on your quilt top. We talked about things to consider like batting choices, thread choices, and how to talk about the design choices that speak to you so you get an end result you like. Afterwards, they got to play on the machines in the shop. It was a really wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning! If you have a guild near Louisville and would like to schedule this presentation for your group, send me an email or give me a call. I'd love to share my love of longarming with your members!
