If you’re in the Louisville area this spring, you have the opportunity to see a very special quilting project. The University of Louisville Hite Art Institute is presenting “Capturing Women’s History: Quilts, Activism, & Storytelling” from February 1 – March 19, 2016. This exhibition includes the first-ever complete hanging of Judy Chicago’s International Honor Quilt.

The Quilt is a collaborative, grassroots feminist art project featuring over 500 quilts that honor women’s achievements. Each quilt is a 2 foot triangle produced by women and groups from around the country to celebrate individuals, women’s organizations, and women’s issues. Organized by Judy Chicago as a companion to her significant work, The Dinner Party, this is the first solo exhibition of the quilts and their stories. In addition to each panel, the exhibit also has documentation about the quilt makers, the women and groups honored, and the techniques used in construction.

You can visit the exhibit Feb. 1 – March 19, 2016. The gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 10am-4:30pm and Saturday – Sunday 1-5pm. An opening reception will be held on Friday, February 12 6-8pm. The Gallery is located at
