An Ambitious Longarm Renter
I had a very ambitious quilter in the studio over the weekend. Colleen rented the Millie on Bliss for the whole day, and brought in four quilts to work on! Here are some of the quilts she managed to finish in the day.
First up was this adorable chevron quilt. Colleen found the scrappy chevron pattern in a booth at the Paducah show earlier this year. I did some searching online, and found this very similar pattern called Scrap Box Chevron by the Franklin Quilt Company. All of her fabrics came from her scrap stash that was just sitting at home, begging to be used. She paired it with a super cute baby pink and white polka dot backing fabric. Add on the sweet and feminine hearts and flowers pantograph and this makes an adorable baby quilt for her new grandbaby, who's expected to arrive after Christmas.
And that's not the only quilt little Blakely Colleen will have to keep warm this winter. Colleen also quilted this adorable quilt with her name. I think the Heart Fancy Pantograph she used really helps to finish off the quilt with a nice loving touch.
To finish off the day, Colleen worked on this pretty table runner. When she found this pansy pattern, she knew this would be perfect for her sister, who loves pansies. Because the table runner wasn't very big, Colleen decided against using a pantograph, and instead did some freemotion work. You can see she added swirls to the flower petals, meandering to the sashing and background, and even added a vein to the leaves. Not bad for her first try at freemotion!
One of the questions I get a lot is, how much can I get done when I come in to rent? The answer depends on the quilter and what she brings in to work on. In a full day rental, that's 5 hours and 45 minutes to be exact, Colleen finished two throw sized quilts (one with a design board and the other with a paper pantograph) and a table runner. In the same amount of time, I've had beginners - even people renting for the first time since their certification class - finish queen size quilts. Just be sure to bring your excitement and joy with you!
