A stitch regulator, on a machine that sits on your table

The Anthem is Baby Lock's top of the line piecing machine. It is the perfect machine for a quilter who would like to free motion quilt her own quilts and wants stitch regulation. Eleven and a quarter inches to the right of the needle, 1,050 stitches a minute, a 10.1 inch color touchscreen, a digital dual feed system that takes 7mm of layers, and the two features that actually change free-motion quilting: StitchSync stitch regulation. Oh, and she has a Needle Guide Beam that projects your sewing line onto the fabric! No more marking diagonal lines on squares to make half square triangles! There are 804 stitches on it as well. It is a phenomenal workhorse of a machine.

The Anthem is Baby Lock's top of the line piecing machine and while it does not embroider, it does a mountain of other things incredibly well. If you want embroidery too, let's chat about the Altair 2. :) We love the needle beam making sewing diagonals a snap and the pivot feature makes our hearts swoon a bit. This is a sweet machine you would LOVE. Call us at (502) 718-7148 or send us an email, and if you are within reach of Louisville come and put a quilt under it to check out that stitch regulation!

StitchSync stitch regulation

In free-motion quilting the machine runs at one speed and your hands move at another, and you hope they match. It take a bit of practice for sure. With StitchSync it watches how fast the fabric is actually moving and adjusts the machine to match, so the stitch length stays even whether you are outlining a feather or humming across an open background. It runs in intermittent or continuous mode, or as a basting stitch, with three soles included for different kinds of work including an open toe perfect for going around applique.

A 10.1 inch color touchscreen, and a laser on the fabric

The screen is 10.1 inches on the diagonal, in color, and it shows you the stitch with its width, length and tension together rather than making you remember which button does what. Separately, the Guide Beam projects a line of light onto the fabric ahead of the needle, so you can follow a seam or a marked line by eye instead of watching the presser foot. Or, aim the needle beam at the diagonal of your square and set your needle a quarter inch away for easy peasy half square triangles! Stitch tapering is programmable through twelve angle settings, which is how you get a satin stitch that comes to a real point and looks beautiful on applique.

Digital dual feed, 7mm of clearance

The Compact Digital Dual-Feed System drives the top layer at the same rate as the feed dogs drive the bottom one, so a quilt sandwich, a slippery satin or a pile of minky all go through without the top creeping ahead. It takes 7mm of layers under the foot, which is more than most quilt sandwiches need. Four dual-feed soles and two quilt bars come with it, along with lateral and diagonal feeding and an automatic presser foot lift.

Eight hundred and four stitches, and fifteen buttonholes

A hundred and eighty-three utility stitches and 621 decorative ones, fifteen one-step buttonhole styles and four alphabets. Stitch width goes to 7mm and length to 5mm. The NeverMiss automatic threader handles the needle, the thread cutter is automatic, the bobbin is a Class 15 quick-set with an independent winder so you can fill one while you sew. Ten inches of LED light runs around the needle area from four lamps, which on dark fabric is the difference between seeing your stitch line and guessing at it.

Eleven and a quarter inches of quilt

The number that decides whether you can quilt a full-size quilt on a domestic machine is the space between the needle and the body of the machine. The Anthem gives you 11.25 inches of it, and a machine 26 inches wide to put it on. Combined with 1,050 stitches a minute and a knee lift, that is enough to roll a queen-size quilt and work across it without the harp fighting you at every pass. Plus it comes with an extension table. It weighs 37.5 pounds.

Baby Lock Anthem Sewing & Quilting Machine with FREE 60 Days of Online Classes — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Baby Lock Anthem?

The Anthem is a sewing and quilting machine with 804 built-in stitches, 15 one-step buttonhole styles and 4 alphabets, 11.25 inches of workspace to the right of the needle, a 10.1 inch color touchscreen, StitchSync stitch regulation and a Guide Beam projected sewing line. It runs from 70 to 1,050 stitches a minute.

Does the Anthem embroider?

No. The Anthem is a sewing and quilting machine only. There is no hoop and no embroidery unit. If you want embroidery as well, call the shop at (502) 718-7148 and we will point you at the right Baby Lock rather than sell you the wrong one.

What does StitchSync stitch regulation do?

In free-motion quilting the machine runs at its own speed while your hands move at another, so stitches come out long on the curves and short where you slow down. StitchSync measures how fast the fabric is actually moving and matches the machine to it, so the stitch length stays even. It works in intermittent or continuous mode, or as a basting stitch, and three soles are included.

What is the Guide Beam?

A laser that projects a line of light onto the fabric ahead of the needle, so you can follow a seam or a marked line by eye rather than watching the edge of the presser foot. It is a laser guide, not a projector, so it shows a line rather than a design.

How is the Anthem different from the Ballad?

They share the same 11.25 inches of throat space, the same 7.0mm digital dual feed and the same 1,050 stitches a minute. What the Anthem adds is StitchSync stitch regulation and the Guide Beam, neither of which the Ballad has, plus a 10.1 inch touchscreen instead of 7 inches, programmable stitch tapering and 804 stitches against 771. If you free-motion quilt, the regulator is what you are paying for.

Can I pay for the Anthem over time?

You will see a Shop Pay Installments payment estimate on this page. Choose Shop Pay at checkout to split the purchase into payments if you qualify. On a machine at this price it is worth calling the shop at (502) 718-7148 so we can walk you through every option.
