Vintage Wreath Appliquéd Custom Quilt
One of my customers had this quilt top which was made by her late husband’s Aunt. It is hand appliquéd.
Unfortunately the white fabric used in the top is very thin so we talked about how this quilt would be a wonderful showcase to custom quilting but that it isn’t going to live a long life because that white fabric is going to tear sooner rather than later. She wanted to go on and have it quilted, though.
Sometimes all of those plain borders can be intimidating. In this case, there were some designs I’d been wanting to play around with and they made the perfect choice for this top.
In the outer pink border I did a woven celtic design from Jessica Schick over on DigiTech. This design frames the entire quilt and reflects a more traditional hand quilted design style.
The innter pink border is also from Jessica. It is a delicate feathered border and corner. I’ve used another of Jessica’s designs in the small green border and the outer red border.
The white border is my own design called Sprout. I love how the shape of the design reflects the shape of the leaves in the wreaths.
Finally, the wreaths are all freehand as is the straight line stitching in the inner red sashings.
