Have you ever walked into a quilt shop, spotted that perfect fabric, and just knew you had to have it—even if you had no idea what you'd make? If you're like most quilters, you’d probably say, “Oh, never! (wink, wink, guilty grin)." We’ve all been there! But then comes the big question: how much do you buy? 1 yard, 2, 3? And no matter how much you take home, when you finally sit down to use it, you either don’t have quite enough, or nothing matches for the pattern you had in mind.

A quilter named Donna Robertson came up with the sweetest solution! Together with her daughter Fran and other talented friends, she created the 3-Yard Quilt book series from Fabric Café. These books are as delightful as they are consistent, making it easy and fun to turn a few yards of fabric into something beautiful!

Each book offers 8 unique patterns, each available in three sizes, with every pattern designed to use the same yardage from three coordinating fabrics: one focal, one light, and one dark. Just 3 yards make a cozy throw, 6 yards make a twin, and 12 yards create a king-size quilt!

And right now, don’t miss our special offer: buy 2 three-yard bundles and get a Fabric Café book free—now through Sunday!

Let’s take a look at a couple of the quilts that we have seen come through our doors in recent months.

Kim’s Quilt: Big Blocks to Showcase Fabric Love

This is a quilt from Kim.  She just saw the fabric and fell in love with it. One of the things I really like about this pattern, and many of the 3 yard quilt designs is the large blocks that allow a true textiphile (lover of fabric) to show off her finds.

This pattern is called “In a Flash” and you can find it in Quick as a Wink 3 Yard Quilts from 2020.  She quilted this with Avalon, another favorite.  I think it looks amazing.

Stephanie’s Sweet Giraffe Quilt

This adorable quilt was made by Stephanie for her niece, and it’s as cute as can be! She picked a charming giraffe fabric to highlight and chose the Bolero quilting pattern because it reminded her of those sweet, long necks.

The quilt pattern is called “Square Dance” from 3 Yard Quilts for Kids. Stephanie decided to skip the final border, and it still turned out simply darling! I love how you can put your own twist on a quilt, even when you start with a pattern—so much fun!

Joyce’s Quilt: Fast, Fun, and Stashtastic!

This lovely quilt is from Joyce, who made it during her certification class. She wanted to whip something up quickly with fabric she had on hand—such a great perk of these quilt patterns!

Joyce did free-motion quilting, which she had a blast with. The pattern is called “Sew Quick” from 3 Yard Quilt Favorites. How fun is that? Just imagine using some of your own stash to make something like this!

Melanie’s Fireworks-Worthy Quilt!

And last but not least, here’s a beauty from Melanie, our very own Quilt Fairy! This one’s called “Jubilee” from Make it Patriotic with 3 Yard Quilts. It’s wonderfully simple to make but has that wow factor that looks delightfully complex. Melanie had so much fun putting it together, and it’s even more fun to cozy up with while watching Fourth of July fireworks!

So, grab that fabric when you see it! And don’t forget to pick out two “friends” to go with it. You can decide on the pattern later. But once that fabric is gone, it’s gone—and trust me, you’ll regret not snagging it (ask me how I know!). Your stash will thank you, and so will the lucky future recipient of that quilt!
