Marking Your Quilts
There are a ton of fabric markers and chalk pencils on the market! When customers walk into our shop and see the wall of marking pens, they tend to ask "but which is the best one?" As usual, the answer is - it depends. It depends on your fabric, how quickly you'll quilt your markings, and your own personal preferences. In the video I shared a few of my favorite chalk pencils and fabric markers and when I use them. You can find all of the pens in the video over in the online shop. And know that if you see anything in my shop, it's there because I've tried it and I trust it. I only carry products I love and want to share with you!
Amy's High Ceiling Basement Studio
For our Lookie Loo tour we visited Amy Lewis in Asheville, NC. Amy's studio is in her home's basement and I'm so impressed with her high ceilings! She said they bought this house with the fantastic basement specifically so she could set up her APQS Lucey on a 12 ft frame. I think it's very special that Amy's space isn't just for her quilting. She's created a space for daughter to paint and be creative while mom does her own creative work! The audio cut out a little while Amy was showing us her fabric storage, but if you're wondering, she said she wrapped her fabric around scraps of moving boxes. Thank you Amy for sharing your space with us! If you'd like to see more of her work you can follow Amy's Facebook page, Blue Goose Quilt Company.
Angela’s Favorite Things
We recently got back in town from the Houston Quilt Market. I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting products, and these Thread Cutterz immediately caught my eye! They're exactly what they sound like - little thread cutters with a small blade built in. There are two different styles, the Flat Mount Thread Cutterz and the Thread Cutterz Ring.
The Thread Cutterz Flat Mount has a sticky bit on the back so you can attach it to your machine. This is especially helpful for longarm quilters since most longarm machines don't come with a thread cutter. You can attach it to the nose of your machine and quickly cut your threads. Just make sure to keep it away from your thread path! We don't want your Thread Cutterz to cut threads before you quilt them! :) The flat mount would also be great for a domestic machine if your built in thread cutter is getting dull.
The Thread Cutterz Ring would be great for hand quilters or even machine quilters who want to leave shorter thread tails. The elastic strap is adjustable and surprisingly comfortable. You could even attach the ring to your longarm handles! Unfortunately the foam around my APQS longarm handles is a little too thick for these rings, but I'm looking for an extender to make that strap longer.
How to Quilt the Quilt: Barbara's Tula Pink Quilt
Over in the Quilted Joy Clubhouse on Facebook, Barbara recently shared a super fun and playful Tula Pink quilt top. She fussy cut the fun animals Tula has hidden in her fabrics and appliqued them to Tula's dotted and striped fabrics. I'm a huge fan of Tula's fabrics as well, so I was really excited to tackle a design plan for this quilt. Watch my thought process as I share how I might quilt Barbara's quilt. What color thread would you use on a quilt like this? I'm leaning toward lime green!
The Quilted Joy Clubhouse Live Meetings occur on the first Wednesday of every month at 1pm Eastern/12pm Central. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday December 4. During December's meeting I’ll talk about tension and how I set my tension. If you’d like to watch live, you can find us on Facebook in the Quilted Joy Clubhouse or subscribe to the Quilted Joy Youtube channel to be notified about our videos. Don’t worry if you can’t join us live. The videos will remain available on both Facebook and Youtube afterwards so you can watch them whenever you want!
Hope to “see” you at the next live meeting!
