Susan's Starburst Quilt
How fun is Susan's Starburst quilt? This looks like one of Jenny Doan's tutorials for Missouri Star Quilt company, and I can see why Susan wanted to make the quilt. Not only was it going to be fun to make, but it looks amazing!
Picking a thread color was going to be a little challenging for Susan's quilt. Just like Imogene's quilt that I showed you just a few days ago, there's a lot of contrast in her quilt. No matter what thread color we chose, it was going to talk more in some areas and disappear in others.
There are a lot of different factors that go into how I choose a thread color. One of those is the backing fabric. I use the same color thread for my top and bobbin. Susan picked out this red American Dreams wideback I carry in the shop for her backing fabric. So we made a daring choice and went with a red thread that would blend on the back and stand out on the top.
I think that thread choice really paid off! The starry edge to edge design we choose doesn't stand out too much from a distance. Up close it really shines across the quilt, and adds an extra design element.
Susan was so pleased when she came to pick up her quilt. I hope it's displayed proudly on one of the walls in her home!
