Sue's Underground Railroad Quilt
Sue is a new client from Maryland and this is her Underground Railroad quilt!
I used the Featheration pantograph and it really looks nice.
Sue is a fan of King Tut thread and asked that I use that brand on her top. King Tut thread is a long staple luscious cotton thread that has a slight variegation in it. I used the Sands of Time color which goes from cream to tan in rapid succession. Using King Tut is great because it doesn't throw off as much lint as other cotton threads. However, the bobbin still needs to be cleaned out more regularly than when I use my favorite thread, So Fine.

The story behind each of these blocks is fascinating. The name of each block has a symbolic significance and the final block includes this explanation in the final block.
I found this great explanation of why each block was chosen to be included in the top.
It is a great example of how all over edge to edge patterns can give a quilt top texture and movement when you have lots of fabrics and different blocks.
