Sarah's Rose Garden Quilt Is Done!
Sarah brought me this quilt that stumped me at first.
The Dresden plates are squares, but the other blocks are rectangles. The piano key pieced border is made up of all different sized rectangles. But I really liked how the unconventional Dresden Plate block was paired with the nontraditional block size. Most of the quilting motifs I have are very symmetrical and very square. Bending them into a rectangle shape is difficult. I also needed something for the borders that could change as the width of the pieced border changed. I like what I came up with!
I talked it over with Sarah and we decided to go with a free hand cabbage rose in each of the rectangular blocks. I did a modified arch in the Dresden Plates with stipple filler. I really like the inner borders. I used a curl design in both. The outside border is called Spider Flower... though I'm not sure why. It doesn't look like a spider to me! I love the way this design turned on the corner, too.
The batting is Hobbs Heirloom Premium 80/20 and the thread is Superior Thread Rainbows with Bottom Line in the bobbin. I've got one more of Sarah's quilts on the frame waiting on me so I better get busy!
