Wow! Pamela brought in this gorgeous purple quilt for me to quilt a few weeks ago.
Pamela is a dyer, but these are all commercial fabrics – almost all of them batiks. Does she have an amazing stash or did she have an epic purple shopping trip? Either way, the variety of purples, from a light lavender to a fairly deep eggplant, is impressive and makes the quilt so much fun. There are also many different textures, from nearly solid to speckled to geometric to leafy. Using different shades and different textures are both excellent ways to create visual interest.
With all this variety, the fabrics are definitely the star of the quilt and an allover quilting design will work best. Pamela chose a soft floral edge-to-edge design called Daphany for her quilt and I used a light purple thread that blended across all of the fabrics’ different values.
Thank you, Pamela, for trusting me with your quilt!
