Nancy and Kim belong to the same guild and recently learned to use an APQS longarm machine together at our studio. They had such a great time that they've both been back since to quilt more tops! Here is Nancy's rental certification class quilt. This is often called a signature quilt - see the diagonal space in the center of each block where someone could sign their name and write a short message? Nancy likes Civil War fabrics and this quilt included quite a selection of them. Selecting a pantograph with lots of curves like China Grove and a neutral thread color complimented the top nicely. Kim quilted this strip club project a few years ago. The fabrics are all batiks and there is a huge variety of colors in lights, mediums, and darks. After trying quite a few colors from our wide selection of Omni threads available as part of her rental, she selected a yellow. Yellow? Yes, yellow - and it looks great! She quilted this quilt with a pantograph from our renter library called A Little Bit This. Vivian, one of our frequent renters, decided that she wanted to improve her freehand meandering skills. She brought in this simple top made mostly of floral fabrics to use for her practice. Working from the front of the machine, Vivian quilted the entire quilt in a meander using a purple Omni thread that blends beautifully with the many fabrics in the top. An edge-to-edge design such as a meander is a very efficient way to quilt a quilt that doesn't require custom treatment. Meandering is also a great way to improve your confidence from the front of the machine if you've been using pantographs and design boards until now. Finally, Tammie brought in this Wonky Log Cabin top recently. Designs such as this are a great way to use up scraps while doing something that looks difficult. Since this is a very angular quilt, she wanted to use curves in her quilting. The Continuous Spirals design board, coupled with a white thread, balanced out those angles nicely. She used a backing fabric from our large selection of 108"-wide fabrics, available in the store and online. Beautiful quilts, ladies!
