I am continually amazed at the variety of tops that our renters bring in to quilt on our APQS longarm machines. Here are a few more from earlier this summer... Nancy made this variation on the "1600-inch" or jelly roll quilt with white 2 1/2" squares between the ends of the strips. It is so interesting to see what people come up with as a variation on the basic jelly roll quilt. Nancy used the Heart Fancy pantograph and light apricot thread to quilt her top. There were so many colors in her quilt Nancy wasn't sure what backing fabric to use. She settled on the sweet and girly Tone on Tone Flowers in white. It looks wonderful! Linda's Illusion top is made entirely of batiks. Don't you love her outer border? It looks like a quilting design all by itself! Linda chose a grey batik with flowers and leaves from our collection of extra wide backing fabrics. She wanted a denser quilting design for her quilt and chose the bountiful feathers design board. Grey thread was the perfect choice that tied the whole design together. Sarah is a modern quilter. This spider web-style quilt is made of improvisational blocks that work together to create an interesting secondary design on point. The back of her quilt includes another improvisational block. Sarah used the Turbulance pantograph to quilt this top in grey thread. We can't wait to see what technique she explores next! Sometimes you fall so deeply in love with something that it never grows old, but sometimes you need a change. Judy decided to try pantographs after several sessions using design boards and fell in love with the Funky Fleur de Lys panto. She used it to quilt this monochromatic Big Star quilt (designed by Jenny Doan with really cool Shoofly blocks floating in the sashing). We haven't identified the design for this quilt by Valerie yet, but those blues, greens and purples are enough to make a Virgo's heart sing! Valerie chose Airborne as her pantograph for this quilt and used a grey thread to blend across all those lights and darks. Airborne is one of our less-used pantographs, but it's a pretty neat one that adds motion to any top. Enjoy, Valerie! More renter quilts coming soon!
