Karee's Fresh Take on a Sampler Quilt
As a longarm quilter for more than 10 years, I've seen many sampler quilts. Sometimes when a customer unfolds her quilt, I can tell from a glance which local quilt shop she frequents.
I've seen a few other sampler quilts similar to Karee's, but this is the first time I've seen someone put their focus blocks on point like this. I think it's so clever and so visually striking! She found the perfect mix of familiar and new. I absolutely love it!
Karee wanted to keep the quilting simple. The piecing is the obvious star. She put a lot of thought and work into the piecing and we didn't want the quilting to take over the quilt. So I quilted a simple meander to give the quilt a little texture and to soften this very angular quilt.
If you're the type of quilter who would prefer lots of quilting on your sampler quilts, I would recommend you check out the book Sampler Quilt Smackdown by Bethanne Nemesh. She taught her Sampler Quilt Smackdown class here at Quilted Joy in September. The way she breaks down sampler quilts into smaller sections to create beautiful designs that flow across the quilt is inspiring!
