Expecto Patronum! Someone is expecto…ing a baby! We all have that one story, that one book or movie that sums up our childhood. And it can be so much fun introducing the next generation to those stories, especially if they are books. We want to inspire the next generation to read. I’m afraid that I’m old enough to have missed the Harry Potter books being part of my childhood, but I’m still crazy about this quilt. This Harry Potter Quilt by Terry is for a super lucky future Potter fan.

Harry Potter Fabric

The pattern for this quilt is easy enough. It is just a simple block quilt. Terry kept the sequence of the blocks the same so that you get the diagonal stripe effect.

The use of the solid blocks around the outside gives a nice border effect. But what really sets this quilt apart is the choice of fabrics.

Terry chose an incredibly cute coordinating Harry Potter fabric line. You can see the trio of characters as well as wands and snitches. The backing shows off the Hogwarts houses all in a muted but colorful color scheme.

Adding Magic with Quilting

Terry picked out the perfect quilting pattern for this Harry Potter quilt, Flirtatious. It is a winding swirling pattern that will double back on itself to make ribbon like curls.

It reminded Terry of the waving of wands and the swirls of magic from the stories. There are other patterns out there, some of which are specifically Harry Potter. But when the top is already super cute and themed, adding too many layers can sometimes distract from the top, rather than compliment it. I think Flirtatious was the right call, simple and elegant.
