George Washington's Potty and the National Botanical Gardens (both rated 2 thumbs up by my kidlets)
While in Washington, DC, we spent one of our days enjoying Mount Vernon. We had a very laid back, enjoyable day just meandering through the grounds. Of course, being with three 10 year-olds means you had to seek out George Washington's potty and learn all about the "necessaries" of that era.
The kids absolutely HAD to get a photo of the benches people would sit on to deposit their.. well, you know. Then in the back of the little outhouse was a door that allowed the, er, deposits to be cleaned out and used in the garden located directly behind the necessaries.
As I mentioned in my previous post, the kidlets were surprisingly fascinated by the botanical garden. I was too! The flowers were so beautiful and we got to see a banana tree and a pineapple plant "in the wild".
Some of the color combination's in these flowers looked like wonderful color palates for a quilt top. (Yep, I can still think about quilts while surrounded by vegetation.)
