Fun Quilt Classes with Decorative Stitch in Michigan
Recently I traveled to Michigan to teach at Decorative Stitch for two days. This is the home shop for my dear friend and co-host on Love of Quilting, Sara Gallegos. I'm always nervous walking into someone else's classroom. There are technical concerns like hooking up my computer to their projector and making sure the classroom is set up so the students can see and hear well. I should have known that Sara would have an AMAZING classroom space. What a treat! Of course, my biggest concern is that I want to do a great job for my students.
I suppose I learned how to teach from homeschooling my kidlets. It was important to find a way to teach all three of them the same subject but, many times, on different levels as each of my triplets took in information slightly differently and one may need a bit more challenge than the others. I consider the same sorts of things in the adult classroom too. I have to say I get a lot of wonderful feedback at the end and from the front of the classroom I can see all the lightbulbs going off over folk's heads. It can be a bit addicting. :)
Day one was full of free motion design/draw classes and my trunk show. I really love sharing my creative journey in my trunk show and I'm waiting for the day when I don't cry and the audience doesn't cry during it but it happens every time!
Day two was my Fabric Animal Collage class using patterns by Laura Heine. This is one of my favorite classes to teach and we are going to offer this same class here at our Louisville, Ky shop on Aug 10, 2019! I'd love for you to join me!
When I teach this class I allow my students to select all different animals and I just love to see the menagerie come to life. This time we had lots of elephants and bunnies. Plus, a first for me... a buffalo! I took pictures of all the animals in progress so you could enjoy their work too! If you haven't yet made a fabric animal collage I encourage you to try it. You can see all of the available animals we carry over on our patterns page. I just love how they all turn out! And... I hope to see you in a classroom soon!
