Design Stage for Custom Quilt
Did you see the photos in my last post about the maroon and blue dresden plate with basket blocks? This is Kathy’s quilt and she wanted it custom quilted.
The first thing I did was take a photo of it and then I brought that photo into a photo editing software program. I used Photoshop but you could use anything. Then I start drawing on the photo with my Bamboo Pen
Because I can draw, erase, try again, etc, I can start to see the secondary patterns emerge easily and I can make better decisions about what will look good on Kathy’s quilt.
Here’s what I tentatively came up with to give myself some direction before tackling the quilt on the frame. Sometimes once I get the quilt on the frame I may change a few of the motifs a little bit but the basic plan will stay the same.
In my next post I’ll show the final product. Kathy hasn’t seen it yet either- I can’t wait to show it to her!
