Cheri's Arcadia Ave Quilt!
Quilts stand out for different reasons. Some have lots of bold colors, and others have bold intricate designs. Cheri’s quilt had both. Cheri completed this Block of the Month quilt at the Cozy Quilter called Arcadia Avenue. It is resplendent with the bold bright jewel tones on not only the front, but the backing fabric as well. Add to that the varied and intricate designs of the blocks and you have a quilt that just hits it out of the park.
The blocks are made up of every color in every block. Along with the bright glowing colors, each block also has white and black. This adds some contrast and structure to each block as well.
Instead of the more traditional square, the blocks are all hexagons, creating a lot of interesting blank space between the blocks that she filled with the bold, but darker blue from the blocks. The negative space can be really fun to show off the quilting.
Cheri chose to have an edge to edge design called Pinched Square Spiral. I think it adds some circular dimension to the quilt which is quite lovely. Add to that, she chose to have it quilted with an equally bright variegated thread that mimicked the colors in the quilt in those blank spaces between her hexagons. You can really see the quilting in that blue negative space and it looks amazing!
Blocks of the month are a great way to have some fun, maybe try out new techniques, and learn something new. Cheri did a spectacular job with this one. I hope we see some more from her soon!
