We'll be learning about a variety of techniques like free motion quilting on a sit down machine, ruler work, and fabric collage. And don't forget about the machine quilting workshop with Linda Hrcka of The Quilted Pineapple. Her workshop filled up so quickly we had to add a second session! Machine Quilting Primer: Baby Quilt, $55

Saturday January 19, 2019 10:30am-3:30pm

Step into the fantastic world of machine quilting using your sit down, domestic sewing machine. In this class we will use a pre-printed panel as our quilting sandbox to play with motifs. No piecing needed! Angela Huffman will show you how to use both straight line quilting and free motion quilting to learn the basics of machine quilting on a regular sewing machine or sit down longarm. Angela will share tips on how to prep your quilting project for quilting, selecting threads, fun beginner stitching designs, and more.

Prior quilting experience is not needed but you do need to know how to thread your machine and set it up for free motion quilting. If you have a table that fits onto your machine to make free motion quilting easier, bring it!

APQS Beginning Longarm Quilting Class, $200

(Free for new APQS machine buyers)

Friday February 1, 2019 10:00am-4:00pm This course is free to those who purchase an APQS machine, but it is also open to those who own a different brand machine. It is designed to help those who own their own stand-up quilting machine regardless of the brand. This is a comprehensive class that covers multiple ways to load a quilt on a frame, how to set tension, how to use pantographs & line them up, basic machine maintenance (APQS specific), and how to choose threads and batting. We will also touch on basic custom quilting. It is mainly lecture/demo so be sure to bring something to write with and a list of any questions you may have. This class covers much, much more than our rental certification course. However, taking this course will also certify you to rent our longarm machines by the hour in the future. Advanced Beginner Longarm Class, $125

Saturday February 2, 2019 10:00am-2:30pm This course picks up where the APQS Beginning Longarm Class stops. This class offers a broad over view of custom quilting. Learn easy custom border/corner/sashing treatment. See how to “read” a quilt top and interpret a quilt top to select the best design. Explore some approaches to feathers that are perfect for the beginning longarm quilter. We’ll discuss common problems with quilt tops and how to solve them. We will also introduce ruler work and explore how to use templates. This class offers the birds-eye view of custom quilting so you are ready for more focused and rigorous classes. Taught by Angela Huffman.

Fabric Collage the Laura Heine Way, $45

Saturday February 9, 2019 10:30am-3:30pm with a break for lunch SOLD OUT! Join us for a one day class exploring the fabric collage technique used by the Laura Heine patterns. This will be a collaborative time to play and explore for the day as we work on our fabric collage projects. In this class we will dive into color, value, and contrast through fabric to add dimensions to a quilt top that is a whirlwind of color, shapes, and designs! We politely ask and encourage you to purchase the materials you need for this workshop at Quilted Joy so we can continue to add fun and unique class offerings. If you aren’t sure we carry what you’re looking for, please give us a call at (502) 718-7148. To ensure everyone will have all the materials they need, Angela will schedule a short meeting with all of the participants prior to the workshop. Bring a sack lunch if desired. We will limit the workshop to the first 9 people due to space needed.

Linda Hrcka 2 Day Machine Quilting Workshop, $325

March 13-14, 2019 9:30am-4:30pm each day, or March 15-16, 2019 9:30am-4:30pm each day We are so excited to have Linda Hrcka of The Quilted Pineapple to join us for a two day machine quilting workshop on March 15-16, 2019! During these two very exciting days Linda will teach 5 lecture/demo classes covering topics like feathers, fillers, and ruler work. These classes are for all skill levels and are perfect for stand up longarm quilters and sit down quilters. Students will receive a delicious boxed lunch both days of classes, so come ready to learn! (Please let us know of any dietary restrictions you may have). Additionally, we will host an optional open studio until 9pm after class each day. During this time we will have all of our longarm machines ready for students so you can practice the skills learned each day in class if you so wish (no additional cost for open studio time). Take the time during class to soak up Linda’s instruction and then you can spend time stitching out your new skills! This open studio time is completely optional but we thought you might like the opportunity to play a bit.

Longarm Machine Quilting with Rulers Spotlight: Straight Edge, $89

The basic straight edge ruler is where most folks start when learning how to use rulers on a quilting machine. We will tackle Stitch in the Ditch techniques, border designs with corners and a few block designs. This class is designed for our rental customers who would like to explore guided custom quilting and for those who own their own longarm quilter and are looking to grow their skills. You’ll share a machine with a sewing partner in this class- limit 2 per machine. A hands on class is the best way to learn these valuable skills. This class is taught by Angela Huffman.

Breaking into Freemotion on the Longarm, $80

Saturday May 11, 2019 12:30pm-3:30pm Would you like to break away from using pantographs and design boards? Moving to the front of the machine shouldn’t be scary! Spend a couple of hours with us and play with a number of easy free motion designs that will work great the next time you rent our machines. This class is designed for our rental customers who would like to explore guided custom quilting and for those who own their own longarm quilter and are looking to grow their skills. This is a hands on class with two people per machine. No supplies necessary, but bring a snack! We’ll take care of everything else!
