Jackie brought me this top to quilt for her. Don't you love the seahorse fabric? To give you an idea of the scale of the printed design, this is a baby quilt! Even as a beginner, she has a natural instinct for fabric placements. Look how the directional seahorse print is pieced so the quilt has a clear top and bottom. I sometimes make a very conscious decision to avoid directional fabrics so I don't have to worry about how I piece my blocks. Jackie did an excellent job keeping track of where her fabrics went! We picked a pantograph for the quilting design that would provide lots of texture while being relatively gender-neutral. Wisteria incorporates leaves with more abstract geometric shapes like swirls and hooks so it fit the bill perfectly. I love how the quilting drifts across the quilt. I used a medium grey thread to quilt the top - the colors range from white to navy, so it was important to pick something that worked across all values.
