April Showers Bring Beautiful Quilts
As I'm writing this, it's a cold, rainy April day here in Louisville. There's nothing better to do on a rainy day than stay inside and quilt - except perhaps to catch up with the renters!
Dorothy quilted this top a few weeks ago. The pattern is so bold and eye-catching that it took some thought to find the perfect quilting design. She decided upon the continuous spiral design board, which has larger and smaller spirals that echo the motion of the curved blocks in her top. She used a purple thread which contrasts well with the golds in the top and blends with the cooler colors. Isn't the secondary motion of the panto fun?
Colleen brought in this adorable sampler recently! It's called Farm Girl Vintage and was a block of the month recently at a local quilt shop. The blocks are just six inches and some are incredibly intricate. Colleen wanted to quilt this edge-to-edge, so she used the Kashmir pantograph and white thread. So cute!!!
You may think that this next quilt seems familiar. Bertie has brought in several of these to quilt for her family since she became certified to rent last fall. This one, though, is her own quilt!!! The pattern is called Log Cabin with Hidden Stars. Look at all those soft greens and the delicate pink buds in the border! Bertie also chose the Kashmir pantograph and used a light neutral thread for the quilting. Great job, Bertie!
Dianna has been collecting stripes for this quilt! We love the effect of piecing them at a 45-degree angle and then placing them on point. That center with the smaller blocks really draws the eye in! Dianna quilted this quilt freehand, using a meander in the stripe blocks and continuous curves along the outside where there are solid setting triangles. She used wavy lines in her solid black borders. Because there was so much variation across the quilt, Dianna selected a medium grey thread to use for all of her quilting. What a stunner!
