A Blooming Nine-Patch!
One of Ali's friends persuaded her recently to try quilting, and now she's hooked! She fell in love with the blooming nine-patch design, bought the book, and gave it a try. We love the results! Because she wasn't ready to quilt a quilt this size on her domestic machine, Ali brought it to Quilted Joy for quilting.
Ali used all batiks in this quilt. I think there are nine different batiks in this quilt, or perhaps eleven? They blend so beautifully! Ali chose one of our batik wide backings, Rippled Reflections in tropical blue, for this quilt.
The blooming nine-patch design is based on the gradual transition of color from center to outer border. This transition should be the focus rather than the quilting.
Ali asked us to quilt her quilt with an allover meander in a color that blended well with the fabrics. We chose a light blue-green Glide thread which has a nice sheen that worked well with the batiks. It is light enough to still be subtle against the peach in the center.
Enjoy your beautiful blooming nine-patch, Ali, and keep up the good work!
