The word classic means “judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind.” What this means, is classic quilt designs are classic because they have stood the test of time and are considered appealing no matter the age. But beauty can be added to, and innovation can bring new life to old but beautiful designs. These quilts are classics, even if some have a twist. Jacob's Ladder Quilt These look like Jacob’s Ladder blocks, but the sashing and cornerstones are unusual. If it didn’t have the sashing, it would be called a Jewel Box. The sashing almost makes it look like it’s behind windows. She quilted this with the A Little Bit This pantograph. Pinwheel Block Quilt Pinwheel Quilt This Pinwheel block quilt was updated with the inclusion of the letter W in the middle of it. Can you see it? This is a chemo quilt Pam made for one of her oldest and dearest friends. The blues and greens are to represent the water in the Chesapeake Bay. Although she was nervous about doing something new, Pam did a great job of free motion quilting swirls. She also found the perfect backing here in the shop, this Wilmington Batik 108 Dancing Leaves fabric. Doesn't it pair with the quilt perfectly? Our thoughts and prayers are with Pam's friend while she undergoes treatment. We know she's keeping warm under her quilt! Wilmington Batiks 108 Dancing Leaves Civil War Quilt This is a block of the month from Georgia created using Civil War era inspired fabrics. Didn’t Debra do an amazing job of piecing this. She finished it off with a meander design board, which paired well with this intricate top. Hexagon Quilt Another classic style is the hexagon. I love the fabric choices Dorothy made with this quilt she created for her niece. The variety of blues evenly placed with the white and then the random pop of red just really gives it variety. She used our Periwinkle pantograph to quilt to a pieced backing. Hexagon Quilt 16 Patch Star This pretty lavender star quilt was created by Nancy. I really like the inclusion of the 16-patch in the stars. It adds a nice variety of color. She quilted with the Star Dance pantograph which follows so nicely with her star theme. This was Nancy’s certification class piece. We look forward to seeing more from Nancy! Learning the classics from the masters is a great way to grow, but you should never hesitate to make them your own.
