Renters are Getting Into the Groove!
First up we have Carol who worked on two quilts in one day. Carol used to have her own longarm machine, but after downsizing to a smaller home she sold it. She was so happy to get back into the longarm world when she discovered our rental program! Carol said she has a huge pile of flimsies waiting to be quilted. The first quilt she worked on was a pattern called Snowflakes. We all really loved the contrast of the bright red with the icy blue in this quilt! When Carol comes to rent, she prefers simple quilting that goes quickly, so the meander design board was perfect for this quilt!
Carol had her Snowflakes quilt finished in no time, and was ready to get started on her next quilt, a pattern she called Lig-A-Lag. Many of us here in the shop loved her fun floral prints and the red fabrics pairing with the black and white fabrics, but Carol wasn’t as enthusiastic. She joked that she liked the back much more than the top and maybe would put it on the bed upside down. Carol really liked our design boards but wanted to try a different design, so for this quilt she used the spirals design board. The quilting is such a different motif from the 90 degree angles in her piecing that it really shows off, especially in that red strip on the back.
This particular t-shirt quilt was a gift for one of Renee’s good friends. She made this from shirts belonging to her friend’s kids. You can tell from a quick glance that her friend’s family are avid University of Louisville fans and active athletes! For the backing fabric, Renee used our black cuddle dot fabric. This minke like fabric is so soft and one of my absolute favorites! We had to make sure we kept the lint roller within reach while cutting and quilting, but it’s so worth it for that incredible feel! We convinced Renee to give free motion quilting a try with a simple all over meander. She was so surprised how fast and easy it was! I don’t think she’ll be going back to pantographs or boards any time soon!
Debbie came in for her rental certification class with this super cute sheep panel. Until very recently she raised sheep, so when she saw this panel on AQS’s website, she was immediately in love! All of those little sheep were so cute! She used the meander design board for a simple design that allows the panel to speak. After her class she said she thinks she’ll be more comfortable using the boards with the grooves than trying to follow a laser light on the paper pantographs.
Jane made this quilt about two years ago in a class using jelly roll batiks. She wanted to come quilt it here for about as long as it’s been sitting in the closet, but life just got in the way. She finally made it in for her rental certification and absolutely loved it! Jane quilted the Square Spiral pantograph onto this quilt, and it looked stunning! We loved the contrast of pieced squares with the quilted squares on point. Jane said she couldn’t wait to come back in and finish her other quilts waiting to be quilted!
