The Ideal Seam Guide is a great little tool that will help you make perfectly straight seams and perfectly consistent seam allowances when paired with the Ideal Seam Gauge.
Every guide comes with a sticky strip on the back that you will place on the throat of your machine. That sticky strip is made of a rubber silicone, no need to worry about getting nasty adhesive residue on your machine or fabrics. The Ideal Seam guide is thick enough to provide a fence for your fabric as you guide it to the needle. You can re-position the Ideal Seam Guide hundreds of times! It is easy to clean the lint off so it can be re-stickified all over again!
When the Ideal Seam Guide loses its grip, simply spray with Fantastic, 409 or any other multi-purpose cleaner you already have at home. Ball up the lint with the pads of your fingers, rinse and air dry. It will get sticky all over again! Be sure not to use a scrubby or your nails as it will scratch the thin strip of rubber that is what is making the guide stick.
Having different sizes of the Ideal Seam Guide is incredibly helpful if you're piecing your quilt at different machines. If you have a featherweight machine for your classes and retreats, you will want the 5" guide. Then when you go home to work at your machine with an acrylic table you'll definitely want the 10" guide, especially if you're working with longer strips! If you're working with very long strips or if you have your machine set into a cabinet or table, be sure to look at the 15" Ideal Seam Guide.
The most popular sizes are the 5" and the 10" guide.
