Machine Information

The Hayate DX-4500QVP is JUKI's flagship computerized machine for home sewing and quilting. Hayate means swift wind. It gives you 12 inches of workspace to the right of the needle, 368 stitch patterns including 20 buttonhole styles and 4 lettering fonts, up to 1,050 stitches a minute, and a 7 inch color touchscreen that carries instruction videos for the machine right on the screen. If you have ever hunted through a manual for a setting mid-project, that last part matters more than it sounds.

The manual is on the machine

The 7 inch touchscreen holds short instruction videos and QR codes, so when you want to know how a feature works you tap it rather than going to look for the book. The screen also keeps a history of the last ten stitches you used, which is how most of us actually sew: five favorites and a wander.

The settings are numbers, not guesses

One panel holds thread tension, presser foot pressure, zigzag width, stitch length, needle position and how far the SmartFeed advances, each of them a figure you can read and change. A setting that works on a slippery satin or a four layer quilt binding is a number you can write in the margin of a pattern and dial straight back in a year later. Automatic thread trimming and the presser foot lift switch on and off from the same place.

JUKI SmartFeed. A dual feed built into the machine moves the top layer along with the bottom layer, adjustable in 0.2mm steps. Plaids stay matched, velvet keeps still, and a quilt sandwich comes out the size it went in. There is no separate walking foot to fit or store.
The drop feed button on the JUKI Hayate DX-4500QVP button panel beside a pair of hands free-motion quilting pale blue fabric.
Free motion and ruler work. One button drops the feed dogs. The transparent quilting foot that comes with the machine lets you watch the needle meet the line, which is what makes ruler work possible rather than hopeful.

Twelve inches, and the feet within reach

Twelve inches of throat is enough for a full size quilt to roll and turn, and the wide extension table comes with the machine. This is the first JUKI with a 12 inch workspace to build accessory storage into the auxiliary bed, so the feet you reach for every ten minutes live under your left hand instead of in a box on the shelf behind you.

Storage in the bed. The auxiliary bed opens to hold your everyday feet where you are working.

Twenty buttonholes. A sensor measures the button and sews the hole to match, both sides at the same density.

Interchangeable straight stitch feed. Swap in the straight stitch throat plate and its matching feed dog, both included, and the needle passes through a small round hole. Fine cottons and silks stay on top of the plate at the start of a seam instead of being drawn down into a wide slot, so your piecing comes out cleaner.
The bobbin thread sensor alert on the JUKI Hayate DX-4500QVP screen reading that the bobbin thread amount has decreased, beside the open bobbin area.
Bobbin thread sensor. The machine watches the bobbin and tells you before it runs out, which is worth a great deal three quarters of the way down a long quilting line.
The LED brightness and color temperature settings on the JUKI Hayate DX-4500QVP, beside two needle area photographs lit in cool white and warm white.
Six LED options. Brightness and color temperature both adjust, from a daylight white to a soft warm white. Navy thread on black cotton reads one way, cream on white reads another, and you can set the light for the job in front of you.

Quilted Joy is a family-owned authorized JUKI dealer, our own technicians service what we sell here in Louisville, and your Hayate comes with free Juki Computerized Pixie Playdate owner classes, as many as you care to take. JUKI asks that the machine be serviced periodically by an authorized dealer to keep that warranty in force. We are that dealer, and the bench is here in Louisville with our own technicians on it, so a clean and a timing check does not mean shipping your machine to a stranger.

How it compares to the Kirei HZL-NX7

The Kirei HZL-NX7 is the other 12 inch JUKI on our floor, and the two have a great deal in common: the same 1,050 stitches a minute, dual feed built into the machine, an interchangeable straight stitch feed system and a touch panel with digital tension you can save. The Hayate DX-4500QVP adds the larger 7 inch screen with instruction videos on it, 17 more stitch patterns, accessory storage inside the auxiliary bed, a bobbin thread sensor and adjustable light color. If you want a smaller footprint on the table, look at the HZL-DX7, which brings the same JUKI box feed principle to an 8 inch workspace. Call us and we will help you choose.

Juki Hayate DX-4500QVP Sewing and Quilting Machine — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the JUKI Hayate DX-4500QVP?

The Hayate DX-4500QVP is JUKI's computerized sewing and quilting machine. Hayate means swift wind in Japanese. It has a 7 inch color touchscreen, a 12 inch workspace, 368 stitch patterns including 20 buttonholes and 4 fonts, and sews up to 1,050 stitches per minute.

How much room does the DX-4500QVP give me?

A 12 inch workspace to the right of the needle, and the included wide table extends the surface further. It is the first machine with a 12 inch workspace to build accessory storage into the auxiliary bed, so your everyday feet sit where you are working.

What is JUKI SmartFeed?

It is a built-in dual feed that moves the top layer of fabric in step with the bottom layer, so plaids stay matched and quilt layers stay put. You can adjust how much it feeds in 0.2mm steps.

Can the DX-4500QVP do free-motion quilting?

Yes. The feed dogs drop at the press of a button, and a transparent quilt presser foot lets you see the needle, which also makes it suitable for ruler work.

What is the interchangeable straight stitch feed system?

You swap in a straight stitch throat plate and a straight feed dog, both included, so the needle sews through a small round hole instead of a wide slot. Fine fabrics stop getting pushed down into the opening and your piecing comes out cleaner.

Does the DX-4500QVP tell me when the bobbin is running out?

Yes. An optical sensor watches the bobbin thread and warns you before it runs out.

Can I change the color of the light?

Yes. The LED adjusts between daylight white and a soft warmer white, which helps when a thread and fabric combination is hard to see clearly.

Can I finance the JUKI Hayate DX-4500QVP?

Yes. Quilted Joy offers Shop Pay Installments, so you can split the purchase into payments. You will see an estimate under the price on this page and can check your eligibility in a few clicks.

What is the warranty on a new JUKI Hayate DX-4500QVP?

JUKI America warrants a new home sewing machine to the original purchaser for five years on parts and two years on the motor, light assembly, wiring, switches, circuit boards and speed control. It covers normal household use in the United States and Canada, is not transferable, and asks that the machine be serviced periodically by an authorized JUKI dealer. Ours is that bench, here in Louisville.

Why buy the DX-4500QVP from Quilted Joy?

Quilted Joy is a family-owned authorized JUKI dealer in Louisville, Kentucky, home of the Quilt Fairies and led by Angela Huffman, host of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting on PBS. Our own technicians service what we sell, and we hold 4.9 stars on Google and a 98% recommend rate on Facebook.
