The one for people who piece a lot
The Presto 2 is a piecing machine first. Eight and a third inches of open space to the right of the needle, 850 stitches a minute, a drop-in bobbin that does not jam and a thread cutter that saves you reaching for scissors at the end of every seam. If you are chain piecing a hundred half-square triangles on a Saturday, those four things are what you actually feel. It has a great price and impressive features.
Angela Huffman, host of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting PBS show and founder/owner of Quilted Joy.
Two things before you buy. The Presto 2 does not embroider, and it has no knee lift. If you sew a lot of applique or do a lot of chain piecing, that missing knee lift is worth a conversation and a reason to move up to the Lyric. Call us at (502) 718-7148 or send us an email and we will tell walk you through the differences between the machines so you can make the best decision for your style of sewing.

A hundred stitches you can easily find
A stitch library is only worth what you can locate in it. The Presto 2 puts 100 stitches on a 2.4 by 1.3 inch LCD screen with one-touch buttons underneath, so choosing a stitch and setting its width and length is a matter of a few presses rather than a chart taped inside the lid. Seven of those are one-step buttonholes, and there are four built-in alphabets for labeling a quilt or monogramming a bag. Stitch width goes to 7mm and length to 5mm.

The bobbin you drop in and forget
This is a Class 15 Quick-Set top-loading bobbin. You drop it in, pull the thread through the slot and start sewing. There is no bobbin case to seat, no thread to draw up, and it is the single biggest reason a machine at this price stops jamming. The clear cover means you can see how much thread is left before you run out in the middle of strip piecing.

Threading, winding and cutting, all done for you
The advanced needle threader takes the needle in one motion, so you are not squinting with one eye while crossing your fingers. The Quick-Set bobbin winder stops itself when the bobbin is full instead of waiting for you to notice. And the automatic thread cutter trims top and bobbin threads at the touch of a button. The Presto II does have a manual tension knob for the top thread. Go up in the Baby Lock line and you'll get auto tension.

Sew without the foot pedal
The start and stop button lets you sew with the pedal pushed aside, which many folks love. The speed slider caps how fast the machine will go, so you can hold it to a crawl for a tricky curve and open it up to 850 for a long straight seam. Needle up and down is its own button, so the needle parks in the fabric every time you stop. Retractable feed dogs drop for free-motion work.

Other Machines to Consider
Baby Lock Presto 2 Sewing and Quilting Machine with 60 days of FREE online classes — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Baby Lock Presto 2?
The Presto 2 is a computerized sewing and quilting machine with 100 built-in stitches, 8.3 inches of workspace to the right of the needle and speeds up to 850 stitches per minute. It has a Class 15 Quick-Set drop-in bobbin, an advanced needle threader and an automatic thread cutter, and it weighs 20.37 pounds, so it is light enough to carry to a class.
Is the Presto 2 a good machine for quilters?
Yes, and piecing is where it earns its keep. At 850 stitches per minute with a drop-in bobbin and an automatic thread cutter, it moves through long seams and chain piecing quickly. The 8.3 inches to the right of the needle handles blocks and smaller quilts comfortably. If you regularly quilt large finished tops on a domestic machine, look at the Allegro, which has 12 inches of workspace.
Does the Presto 2 have a knee lift?
No. The Presto 2 does not have a knee lift, and one is not available for it. If you do a lot of applique or pivoting where you want both hands on the fabric, that is worth knowing before you buy. The Allegro and the Lyric both include one. Call us at (502) 718-7148 and we will talk it through with you.
How is the Presto 2 different from the Allegro?
The Allegro is about four hundred dollars more, and the reason to spend it is space and speed, not stitches. The Allegro gives you 12 inches of workspace instead of 8.3, a hands-free knee lift and 1,000 stitches per minute. The Presto 2 actually beats it on alphabets, four to two, so if you monogram and label more than you quilt large tops, the Presto 2 is the smarter buy.
Does the Presto 2 embroider?
No. The Presto 2 is a sewing and quilting machine only. There is no hoop and no embroidery unit, and one cannot be added. If you want to embroider, ask us about the Baby Lock machines that combine sewing and embroidery in one.
Does the Presto 2 have a stitch regulator?
No. The feed dogs drop for free-motion quilting, but stitch length in free motion is down to how you move the fabric. If you want the machine to regulate that for you, the Anthem has StitchSync stitch regulation.
Can I pay for the Presto 2 over time?
Yes. Shop Pay Installments is available at checkout, so you can split the purchase into payments. You will see the option and the estimated payment on the checkout page. We are also happy to talk through your options by phone at (502) 718-7148.
Does Quilted Joy price match on the Presto 2?
Yes. If you find the identical new Presto 2 for less at another authorized Baby Lock retailer, tell us and we will work to match it, subject to manufacturer pricing policies. See our Price Match Guarantee page for the details.
What warranty comes with the Presto 2?
Baby Lock covers the Presto 2 with a 25 year limited manufacturer's warranty, 10 years on parts, 5 years on the circuit board, 5 years on electrical components and 1 year of labor. Warranty service is done in Louisville by our own factory-certified technicians, and any Baby Lock dealer in the country can service it under warranty if you live elsewhere.
Why buy the Presto 2 from Quilted Joy?

Every machine comes with owner classes, we service what we sell with our own factory-certified technicians, and you can call us and speak to someone who actually sews on these machines.
