Ten and a quarter inches of hoop, and regular sewing capabilities too
The Vesta is where the embroidery field stops dictating what you are allowed to make compared to the Baby Lock Bloom or Baby Lock Aurora. Six and a quarter by ten and a quarter inches takes a towel border, a name across a shirt front or the center of a quilt block in one hooping, with no splitting the design and no re-hooping halfway through. Underneath that there is wonderful sewing machine: 301 stitches, 8.3 inches of throat space and thirteen presser feet. The Vesta is the machine for someone whose embroidery has outgrown a 5 by 7 hoop.

Less re-hooping is the whole feature
The embroidery field is 6¼ by 10¼ inches, which is 160 by 260mm. Every time a design is longer than the field you have to split it and re-hoop, and re-hooping is where designs can come out crooked. Ten and a quarter inches removes that step for most of what people embroider. Both hoops come in the box with grids, the full 6¼ by 10¼ and a 5 by 7, and the machine can sew designs up to 200,000 stitches at 850 stitches a minute.
Editing before you stitch
You place, rotate, mirror and combine designs on the machine's screen. Rotation goes in one, ten and ninety degree steps. Color Sort is the one that saves real time: stitch the same design several times in one hoop and the machine reorders the whole run so you change thread fewer times. One honest limit worth knowing before you buy, resizing on the machine goes up 20 percent and down 10 percent, and it does not recalculate stitch density, so it is a nudge rather than free scaling like you'll find with our embroidery machines further up the line.

293 designs, 14 fonts, and your own transported over wifi
There are 293 built-in designs and 140 frame patterns on the machine, plus 14 built-in embroidery fonts. Your own designs come across from your computer over your wifi with Baby Lock's Design Database Transfer software, which is a free download, or on a USB stick if you would rather. It reads .pes, .phc and .dst files. Two limits to know: it does not read .phx, and the wireless transfer only runs one way, computer to machine.
Thirteen feet, and a machine that sews properly
This is the half that the Flare does not have. The Vesta has 301 built-in stitches and 14 one-step buttonhole styles, and thirteen presser feet come with it, including the free-motion open toe foot, the open toe, the Teflon foot, the stitch guide and the adjustable zipper and piping foot. There are 8.3 inches to the right of the needle, the bobbin is a Quick-Set drop-in, the thread cutter is automatic and the feed dogs drop. Advanced Pivoting lifts the foot for you when you stop, so turning a corner does not mean letting go of the fabric.
Where the Vesta sits in the line
Below it is the Bloom, and that step down is mostly all about the hoop size the Vesta will take which opens up more possibilities to you, the speed goes from 650 to 850 on the Vesta. Above it is the Aerial, and that is a real step up: an 8 by 12 inch field, 1,050 stitches a minute, a 7 inch color touchscreen, plus, 11.25 inches of throat space instead of 8.3, and the sewing side jumps from 301 stitches to 757. If you quilt full-size tops on your domestic machine, that harp is one reason to go up in the line. And sideways, the Flare is this exact embroidery machine without the sewing abilities.

What is the Baby Lock Vesta?
The Vesta is a combination machine that sews and embroiders. It embroiders a 6 and a quarter by 10 and a quarter inch field at 850 stitches a minute with 293 built-in designs and 14 embroidery fonts, and the sewing side has 301 stitches, 14 one-step buttonholes, 8.3 inches of throat space and 13 presser feet.
How is the Vesta different from the Flare?
On the embroidery side they are the same machine: the same 6 and a quarter by 10 and a quarter field, the same 293 designs, the same 850 stitches a minute. The difference is that the Flare does not sew at all, and it costs about sixteen hundred dollars less. If you already own a sewing machine you are happy with, buy the Flare. The Vesta earns its money when you want one machine that does both well.
How is the Vesta different from the Bloom below it?
Mostly the hoop. The field goes from 5 by 7 inches to 6 and a quarter by 10 and a quarter in a single hooping, and embroidery speed goes from 650 stitches a minute to 850. Worth knowing honestly: the Bloom actually has more built-in designs than the Vesta, 342 against 293. You are paying for field size and speed, not for content.
How is the Vesta different from the Aerial above it?
That step is a real one. The Aerial gives you an 8 by 12 inch field, 1,050 stitches a minute, a 7 inch color touchscreen, 11.25 inches of throat space instead of 8.3, and the sewing side jumps from 301 stitches to 757. If you quilt full-size tops on a domestic machine, that wider harp is the reason to spend the difference.
How do I get my own designs onto the Vesta?

Can I resize designs on the Vesta?
Within limits. On the machine you can enlarge a design up to 20 percent and reduce it up to 10 percent, and it does not recalculate stitch density when it does, so treat it as a nudge rather than free scaling. Moving, mirroring, combining designs and rotating in one, ten and ninety degree steps are all on the screen.
What is Color Sort?
When you stitch the same design more than once in a single hoop, Color Sort reorders the whole run so the machine stops for fewer thread changes. On a hoop full of repeats it saves a real amount of standing at the machine with a spool in your hand.
Can I quilt on the Vesta?
For blocks and lap-size quilts, yes. A free-motion open toe foot comes with the machine, the feed dogs drop, and Advanced Pivoting raises the presser foot when you stop so you can turn a corner without letting go. There are 8.3 inches to the right of the needle, which is comfortable for blocks and tight for a bed quilt, and there is no stitch regulator, so free-motion stitch length is down to your hands.
