The machine where embroidery the hoop size opens up
As you explore machine embroidery you'll find that many embroidery designs made today will fit in a 5" x 7" hoop so this machine will allow you to begin to explore a number of commercial designs you can stitch. You'll get a 5 by 7 inch field with a 5 by 12 multi-position hoop, both hoops in the box, jump stitches trimmed automatically, a hands-free knee lift and on-screen editing. Having your jump stitched trimmed for you makes embroidery much more enjoyable versus needing to finish with scissors.

Five by seven, and a hoop that goes to twelve
The Bloom stitches a 5 by 7 inch field, which covers the great majority of what people actually embroider: a monogram on a towel, a name across a shirt front, a quilt label, a design on a bag panel. The second hoop is the interesting one. The 5 by 12 multi-position hoop lets you stitch a design longer than the field by carefully repositioning the fabric in the hoop. Both hoops come with grids, and both come in the box.
Time Saving Embroidery Features on the Baby Lock Bloom
It cuts the jump stitches for you
This is the feature that saves the most actual minutes. When the design moves from one area to another, the Bloom cuts the thread instead of trailing it across the hoop. On a machine without it you sit with small scissors afterward, clipping every jump on every design. That can get tedious. You'll also love the Color Sort feature which allows you to reorder the colors of the thread you are stitching if working with multiple designs in the hoop so you stitch everything needed from one color at a time to minimize thread changes.
A knee lift, thirteen feet, and on-screen editing
The hands-free knee lift raises the presser foot with a tap of your knee, which matters every time you pivot with both hands full of fabric or are chain piecing, and it is the kind of thing you stop noticing until you sew on a machine without one. Thirteen presser feet come with the Bloom: ten snap-on, including buttonhole, overcasting, monogramming, zipper, zigzag, blind stitch, button fitting, non-stick, open toe and stitch guide, plus three screw-on, the adjustable zipper and piping foot, the embroidery foot and the free-motion quilting foot. On the screen you can resize, rotate and combine designs before you stitch, which the Aurora below it cannot do at all.
251 stitches, and designs over your wifi
The sewing side has 251 built-in stitches, from utility work to decorative edges. The bobbin is a Quick-Set drop-in. The Advanced Needle Threader takes the needle in one hand. Feed dogs drop for free-motion work. Designs come across from your computer over wifi with the free Design Database Transfer software from Baby Lock, or on a USB stick, in .pes, .phc or .dst format.
Where the Bloom sits in the line
Below it is the Aurora, and the honest summary of that gap is that the Aurora buys the ability to embroider while the Bloom buys the ability to embroider with more design options due to the 5" x 7" hoop. Plus, the Aurora does 400 stitches a minute and the Bloom give you 650 stitches a minute, and you gain the knee lift, on-screen editing and automatic jump-stitch trimming. Above it is the Vesta, and her embroidery field goes to 6¼ by 10¼ inches in a single hooping and the speed goes up to 850.

What is the Baby Lock Bloom?
The Bloom is a combination machine that sews and embroiders. It embroiders a 5 by 7 inch field at 650 stitches a minute with 342 built-in designs and 15 embroidery fonts, has 251 sewing stitches, cuts jump stitches automatically, and comes with a hands-free knee lift and 13 presser feet.
How big is the embroidery area, and what hoops are included?
The stitchable field is 5 by 7 inches, which is 130 by 180mm. Two hoops come in the box, both with grids: the 5 by 7 and a 5 by 12 inch multi-position hoop. The multi-position hoop lets you stitch a design longer than the field by repositioning the fabric within the hoop rather than re-hooping it, which is where long designs usually go crooked.
What does cutting jump stitches actually save me?
Time and fabric. When a design moves from one area to another, the Bloom trims the thread instead of trailing it across the hoop. Without that feature you sit afterward with small scissors clipping every jump on every design, and sooner or later you nick the fabric. It is the single feature on this machine that people notice most after owning it.
How is the Bloom different from the Aurora below it?
The Aurora buys the ability to embroider. The Bloom buys the ability to embroider without fighting the machine. The field goes from 4 by 4 to 5 by 7 plus the 5 by 12 multi-position hoop, one hoop becomes two, embroidery speed goes from 400 stitches a minute to 650, and the Bloom adds a hands-free knee lift, on-screen design editing and automatic jump-stitch trimming, none of which the Aurora has.
How is the Bloom different from the Vesta above it?
That step is narrower than the price suggests. The Vesta stitches 6 and a quarter by 10 and a quarter inches in one hooping instead of splitting long designs, and it runs at 850 stitches a minute instead of 650. But the Vesta has fewer built-in designs than the Bloom, 293 against 342, and one fewer font. You are paying for hoop size and speed, not for content. If you embroider towels and jacket backs regularly, that hoop is worth it. If you do not, the Bloom is the better value.
Can I edit designs on the screen?
Yes. You can resize, rotate and combine designs on the Bloom's screen before you stitch, and Color Sort will reorder a repeated design so the machine stops for fewer thread changes. The Aurora below it has no on-screen editing at all.
How do I get my own designs onto the Bloom?
Over wifi with Design Database Transfer, straight from your computer, or on a USB stick through the machine's USB port. It reads .pes, .phc and .dst files. If you buy designs in other formats, check that list before you order.
Can I quilt on the Bloom?
For blocks and lap-size projects, yes. A free-motion quilting foot comes with the machine and the feed dogs drop. There are 6.7 inches of throat space to the right of the needle, which is comfortable for blocks and tight for a bed quilt. There is no stitch regulator, so free-motion stitch length is down to your hands.
