The Young Makers' Academy Introductory Workshop
Ready to begin your creative journey? The Young Makers' Academy Introductory Workshop is the required first step for all students interested in enrolling in the Young Makers' Academy curriculum. Designed for creative tweens and teens ages 9 and up, this workshop introduces young makers to the sewing studio while building the foundational skills needed for success in future classes.
This fun, hands-on workshop is designed to help students become comfortable with sewing machines, sewing tools, fabric handling, and basic construction techniques before beginning the year-long curriculum. Whether your child has never sewn before or has limited sewing experience, this workshop provides a welcoming and confidence-building introduction to the world of sewing.
Throughout the workshop, students will learn:
- Sewing machine basics and safety
- How to properly thread and operate a sewing machine
- Common sewing tools and their uses
- Fabric cutting and pinning techniques
- Basic seams and construction methods
- Sewing terminology and studio etiquette
- Problem-solving and creative confidence
Students will put their new skills into practice by creating a beginner-friendly project to take home while learning how to follow directions, work independently, and care for sewing equipment.
The Introductory Workshop serves as the foundation for the entire Young Makers' Academy program. Upon completion, students will be eligible to enroll in Level 1, Unit 1 and begin their journey through the curriculum, which includes four progressive levels, six units per level, and a full school year of creative learning and skill development.
At The Young Makers' Academy, we believe sewing should be both educational and magical. This workshop is the perfect first stitch in a creative adventure filled with colorful fabrics, new friendships, exciting projects, and skills that will last a lifetime. Students will leave with a completed project, newfound confidence, and excitement for the creative possibilities that await them.
Required for all new Young Makers' Academy students ages 9 and up before enrolling in Level 1 classes.
