Let's have fun analyzing and admiring this wonderful snowball variation quilt that Arlene brought in recently to be quilted!

This is a snowball variation on point. If you look at this picture at an angle, you will see that the snowball block - the one with the biggest area of color - alternates across each row with a nine-patch with sashing. I really like how the addition of that sashing in the nine-patch creates the image of complexity over the quilt.

Arlene made this top in calm, restful colors - blues, greens, and greys. It is made entirely of batiks printed with patterns mostly seen in nature. Do you see the seashells, sand dollars, leaves, ferns, and pebbles? So many great shapes to inspire the quilting pattern! We decided to use Limetree, which has a leafy look and great overall texture. The grey thread I used to quilt this top blends well and ensures that the texture remains just that.
