Usually, customers bring in what we would call "bed shaped" quilts to be quilted edge to edge. Throws, fulls, twins, queens, and the occasional king quilt are all rectangular but not long and skinny. Sarah recently pieced a bed runner for a family member which was a change of pace for me as the quilter! Why do people make bed runners? There are quite a few reasons: to keep the feet warm, to give pets a defined place to lay, to protect the bed from shoes left on during a nap, to test out a specific block, or just to add a warm, inviting touch to a room. Sarah's bed runner included gold, grey and white fabrics, many of which were musically-themed. Because of their color, she chose an edge to edge design called Star Swirl that incorporates stars and waves. I selected a light neutral thread for the quilting. Sarah's backing fabric, Moda Grunge in Grey Couture, came from our extensive selection of extra wide backings. She purchased extra so that she would be able to use the same backing fabric for the binding. I know the recipient of this beautiful bed runner will enjoy it!
