Quilters who love batiks often say that they coordinate with each other beautifully, and here's a great example! Karen created this lovely postage stamp quilt from her extensive collection of batik scraps. If you hadn't already guessed by looking at her work, Karen loves both batiks and bright colors. A whole lot of love went into the construction of this top. Each postage stamp square finished at only one inch. They were laid out individually on Karen's design wall - not strip-pieced. Can you imagine pinning those rows together? Wow! Karen knew exactly which thread she wanted for her quilting - a bright orange called Halloween from Glide - a color that would blend nicely into the postage stamps and the backing fabric but really show off in that dark blue inner border. Bright colors such as orange and lime green can be really interesting when they are used in quilting - give them a try sometime! See how amazing Halloween looked against Karen's dark blue inner border and against all those colorful batiks? Karen also prefers more traditional and very dense quilting designs, like the Baptist fan. This design adds some nice texture to her quilt without taking over. It looks beautiful! Karen originally made this quilt for herself, but her sister-in-law fell in love with it when she saw it hanging on the design wall. I wonder if Karen has more batik scraps...
