Memorial Shirt Quilt to Remember a Special Father
Here are some photo's of Mary Jo's Memorial Quilt made out of her dad's shirts. The quilt is going to be a special Christmas gift for her mom!
Take a look at the cornerstone in the outer border. It is made out of Mary Jo's father's hat. It was a little blue cotton hat with red piping.
This hat was very special to her and she wanted it worked into the quilt some way. It was difficult since the hat was not a flat, square piece of normal thickness fabric. However, I was able to use it in the cornerstones. I was really glad I was able to work it into the top for her.
The label was designed with input from her family. This quilt will be a very special group Christmas gift from Mary Jo's siblings and siblings-in-laws to her mother. I wish I could be a little fly on the wall when she opens this special gift.
The little shirt blocks were inspired by a quilt designed by Sarah S. of Sandwich, Il. She is planning on producing a pattern based on her design and when she does, I'll post info here for those of you'd who'd like the pattern. It makes a really spectacular block out of shirt fabrics. This was the last of my Christmas deadline quilts. I'm shutting down for the holiday so I can enjoy my nine year old triplets and the magic of the season. Merry Christmas!
