Today I have a really interesting quilt to share with you. Linda has a granddaughter in the theater program at her high school. According to her, seeing a spider web in the theatre is good luck, so what better quilt to make for her than a spider web quilt? For those who haven’t seen one of these, a spider web block has an octagon shape that is made by having eight triangles sewn together converging in a center point. Each of these triangles is made of multiple layers that can be equal in length or parallel or not. The result is a spider web of seams. The colors are also mesmerizing. The pinks and teals blend nicely with the beiges and browns, and then you get that pop of black to accent and frame the web. Originally, Linda considered having this quilt custom quilted. However with the variety of colors and all those playful prints I was worried the quilting would disappear in the top. We discussed it and agreed that maybe an edge to edge design would be a better fit. And I’m so glad we agreed, because we found the perfect panto for those spider webs! Don’t you think the Pinched Square Spiral looks like a spider’s web? It was a nice subtle element to add to this impressive top. Linda was so pleased with her finished quilt. I have no doubt her granddaughter loved it!
