Linda's Pinwheel Quilt
Linda's Pinwheel quilt is one of those quilts that takes on a whole new look as you step back from it. I love the look all of those pinwheel blocks have together. The movement they give each other and the overall strength of the high contrast really works in quilts like this. One of the things that surprised me is the brown fabric she chose. It is actually a pretty busy print that would have overtaken the design. However, she used the back of that fabric in the front of the top. Did I describe it well enough?
The back of the brown fabric was just luscious chocolate color and it worked well with the tone on tone white. It is a great tip, really. If the fabric you are using talks a bit too loud in your top, flip it over and consider using the "wrong" side as your new "right" side!
I did an edge to edge pattern on Linda's quilt called Spin. It really works nicely with pinwheels and gives such a great feeling of movement. I'm in love with this pattern. Look for my next post to see the same pattern in a very different top with an entirely new feel. Cool!
