Kentucky Superfan Quilt
We see a lot of University of Kentucky and University of Louisville themed quilts come through the shop. Paula made this UK themed quilt for her grandson, who is clearly a UK superfan. There are fabrics representing a variety of sports like basketball, soccer, baseball, and lacrosse. And of course lots of Kentucky blue!
Those of you outside of KY might not know, but finding the perfect Kentucky blue is incredibly hard! So often you'll find a fabric that is a little too bright or too dark to be the right match. This blue dyed backing is probably the closest wide back we have to it in the store at the moment, and as you might guess we don’t have a lot left!
For the quilting, we talked about the Square Spiral pantograph, which is a great gender neutral design that works well for boy quilts. Using the basketballs as inspiration, I searched through my collection of pantographs and found the Pinched Spiral pantograph. We agreed this design would look even better on this quilt. It shows really well in the fabrics and the way the quilting design comes together to make circles perfectly complements all of the basketballs in the fabrics.
Unfortunately the UK men's basketball team is already out of the NCAA tournament, but maybe Paula's grandson can snuggle under this quilt during games next year!
