I am in love with Imogene's Log Cabin quilt! Isn't it just stunning? When I'm quilting these quilts for my customers, I'm only looking at a 20" section of the quilt at a time. So I didn't appreciate the full beauty of Imogene's quilt until we hung it up for photographs. There are so many opportunities to play with colors in log cabin quilts. I don't think I've seen another one like Imogene's. I love how the colors bring your eyes into the center of the quilt. This will look amazing draped across the bed! Imogene made this quilt as a Christmas gift for a young man. She said he's a huge University of Louisville fan so she used the school's colors: red, black, and white. My favorite pantograph for a young man's quilt is the Pinched Square Spiral. This is a great geometric design that adds lots of quilty texture without distracting from the piecing. Our next challenge was figuring out what color thread to use. Red, black, and white quilts catch your eye because there is so much contrast. Sometimes this makes choosing a thread color a little hard, because what blends in one fabric will really talk in another. We decided a red thread would talk best across the whole quilt.
